Will Quantum Technology Transform the Future of Science?

Despite these perilous times we live in, our need to explore the universe remains ever present. As we learn and expand our knowledge, the importance of the quantum technology becomes increasingly clear. After all, in order to understand the big, shouldn’t we understand the small? In such, is our technology paradigm ending, and what will replace it?

Corporate positioning on patents regarding generations of hardware and software enforces a certain aspect of our technology paradigm. This aspect is process driven and engineered for profit through controlled progress. Is it correct to credit these technological breakthroughs as new creations?

Quantum Technology Creates Or Do We Discover?

Maybe, maybe not, as context is king in reaching an answer. The quantum world is still a mystery, laden with pre-defined secrets. It offers clues to our past and also our future. Why do 1,024 bytes work as a single megabyte instead of 1,000 bytes? Quantum technology is the aftereffect of scientific discovery, not its forerunner.

Our current list of ‘breakthrough’ marvels sees the ‘technology versus science’ race for social recognition as ongoing. Social media posts about Canada’s new ‘quantum radar’ are an example. Canada’s scientists support claims of field testing this new technological marvel by 2030. Passive radar scanning using quantum entanglement instead of three dimensional (active) radar scanning is truly remarkable.

Exploration Is Discovery

The Canadian Government, Canada’s University of Waterloo, and others are bound on a project to create this marvel. At today’s technological level, creating and binding two protons is a truly remarkable feat. The technology that projects a proton’s bound twin, along with reporting it missing, is equally remarkable. The understanding that creates it, however, is exceptional.

Exploration, not development, has always led us to nature, the universe, and why we are here. That human thirst for knowledge, so endangered in our time, continues to be the basis for all our technological development. Canada’s quantum radar goals are just an example of one technological breakthrough regarding the quantum world as a new frontier.

Quantum Technology Exploration Starts With Vision

That unstoppable need to explore has led to many attempts to explain the elusive relationship between quantum entanglement distillation (multiple quantum entanglement (bound) states) and entropy (direction). A balanced mathematical expression originating from the University of Amsterdam did exactly that. They proved it possible at a mathematical level.

The discovery by these physicists has updated scientific understanding around quantum entanglement (i.e., a bound quantum particle such as a proton to its twin). With this exploration, new technological opportunities are born such as passive/noiseless quantum radar.

Same World Different Technology

Canada’s defence needs are as stark as any democracy in today’s increasingly dangerous world. Once again, tyrants rise, and nations become under threat. Good and bad actors share in the desire to use technological breakthroughs as tools for their respective agendas.

Science takes a role as a relative out-group in the politics and also the world of today. Their role necessities narrow focus and utter impartiality, which bad actors often find threatening. Despite this, science does not seek to impose its will, nor its findings on the world. It just investigates, learns and shares.

As scientists are always the first to explore with objectively, they seek to inform and help the world by enriching us with the outcomes of their life’s work. With science’s help, when we know better, we do better. Long, may it continue.
