Those who followed Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine would recall when the Putin regime’s lies lead to a full-scale invasion of the battered, yet impressively resilient nation. February 2022 saw Russia brutalize Ukraine in an alarming example of what was awaiting any nation resisting their march of tyranny.
Well, resist Ukraine did, and the entire country went to war. Exceptional Ukrainian leadership also brought the free world into its corner. This is despite the ongoing hybrid warfare by Russia, boldly targeting western democracies with a platter of weaponized false narratives designed to do exactly the opposite.
Two years later, which feels like a lifetime soaked in Russian digital-waffle, the free world is still supporting Ukraine as one of its own. Malicious hybrid strategies designed to have free world societies on its knees are actually bringing Ukraine into our democratic family. This reflects in military aid from Europe and the United States, which broke through toxic politics and kept Ukraine going.
CIA In Ukraine
While Russia was busy meddling with the inner workings of democratic societies from Europe to the United States, the CIA was partnering up with Ukraine in a strategic initiative to intercept and compromise Russian operations. Forward operating intelligence bases close to the Russian border are presenting Ukraine with the right of reply to the Russian invasion of their homeland.
I cannot help but wonder where Ukraine would be if Russia had not compromised the US Elections of 2016, which changed the political dynamic in the United States. Their meddling has had a profound impact on a country, which was already dealing with a platter of social issues. It introduced an additional layer of manufactured false narratives designed to further destroy the fabric of American society. The first and most profound casualty was, and is, trust in the government.
Ukrainian Vision meets CIA knowhow
These Ukrainian intelligence bases are the product of Russian miscalculation, forcing Ukraine’s hand to creatively solution a response. Ukrainian intelligence courted the CIA, built trust, and established a working relationship that is enormously beneficial to both the United States and Ukraine.
From Terror to Valor: Echoes and Shadows, available on pre-order for September 11th release.
Like in my novel, the work of clandestine bad-actors never ceases. It reflects in the risks to Ukraine from Donald Trumps’s campaign to get re-elected this November. His lies, felonious actions, and subversive inclinations all point to an internal threat within the United States. It also points to a connection with hostile state actors such as Russia.
What the hubris of Trumps’s organization seems to have overlooked is the resilience of the American people. Americans, despite the ongoing attempts to brainwash them, are becoming aware, accepting, and responsive to this new threat. Instead of being paralysed by fear, or manipulated into counter productive actions by Trump and his machine, Americans are becoming information resilient.
Learned Lessons From Afghanistan in Ukraine?
In the background, I also think the CIA has learned an important lesson about stepping back from key international partners, as in Afghanistan. Just days before September 11th, 2001, the Taliban, via a suicide bombing attack, assassinated Ahmad Shah Massoud. This prominent northern alliance leader was Afghanistan’s best hope for peace, and a prosperous relationship with the west.
He was also partnering with the CIA in areas of mutual interest. His assassination was instrumental to the consolidation of al-Qaeda’s position in a Taliban controlled Afghanistan. Just days later, airliners struck the Twin Towers in Manhattan, New York, in a multi-pronged terror attack we now know as 9/11.
Ukraine’s Forward View
Its my view that Ukraine’s biggest threat is currently Donald Trump winning in November’s elections. Americans will decide his fate at the ballot box. I honestly cannot see a situation after the US Elections, which will see the disgraced Republican candidate back in power. The amount of election rigging is unfathomable to see him escaping prosecution, and advancing the agenda of Project 2025 with his co-conspirators.
What I can see is Americans retaking their democracy from far-right tyranny. I can also see the new administration more practically reaffirm America’s ongoing support for Ukraine during its 21st century version of the Battle of Britain. In the background, the CIA will continue its important work on the ground, intercepting Russian intelligence with Ukrainian partner forces.
The significance of this goes far beyond Ukrainian sovereignty. It’s a highly effective tool against Russian offensive operations whose ambitions of conquest are Europe centric for now. Russia, by their own full spectrum of war doctrine, has many layers of offensive activity. Some fall below the threshold of war, some above, yet all integrate into a larger offensive plan.
The United States has partnered with Ukraine to intercept, adapt and disrupt what is a brutally refined strategy of conquest. All she needs to do after this November’s elections is to stay the course set out by President Biden’s administration.
